The Northwest Regional Development Agency has published Wednesday, October 12, 2022, the final version of the 2021-2027 Sectoral Tourism Strategy of the North-West Development Region, approved by Order 13 of 04.10.2022.
Tourism is vital to the success of many economies around the world, if properly understood and applied; it can improve the standard of living in the host communities by creating jobs and capitalizing on products and local identity, provided that the approach is towards sustainability, authenticity/uniqueness, attractiveness/competitiveness and, predominantly, export.
At the level of the North-West Development Region, we want to focus on the following guidelines, in terms of tourism:
- Identifying the elements of authenticity, uniqueness and attractiveness of the destination (for positioning – identity and branding)
- Attracting and involving local communities, producers and products in the tourism offer within the destination, in order to benefit from attractive and competitive tourism products both for residents and for domestic tourism and the international market, in order to increase the quality of life of the local community, through:
- Increasing the number of arrivals of foreign tourists in the destination and/or increasing the amount of money spent by them in the destination;
- Decrease in the number of departures of residents outside the destination and/or decrease in the amount of money spent by them in other destinations;
- Attracting residents to consume local products.
Also, at the horizontal level, we consider the following aspects:
- Digitization of tourist attractions and services in the region;
- Making the region accessible (for people with impairments/disabilities);
- Integrated, coherent and sustainable tourism development, positioning and capitalization, taking into account the specifics of adjacent micro-destinations;
- Specialization of personnel in the tourism and hospitality industry;
- The sustainability of the region (local communities, gastronomy and local products, protecting the environment and biodiversity, at the level of each micro-destination).
